| Did You Know? |
| Minnesota is facing a historic near budget shortfall. Our taxes may go up and public services and programs are already on the chopping block. Responsible state leaders must explore sources of significant tax revenue like racetrack casinos. A past independent study showed that Minnesota voters favored the Racino concept by a clear majority. That was long before we faced a massive state deficit. The ability to immediately generate state revenue with a Racino is readily apparent and could include the simple installation of gaming machines at existing racetracks. |

The Year So Far at Canterbury With recent wins, our combined Minnesota racing stables place 6th in wins and 8th in total earnings on a statewide basis. Since we know we are sitting on a few good winning opportunities over the last two weeks of the season, we hope to close out our Minnesota racing adventures on a strong note. Stormy Business Sires Winning Filly! With only two races being run by Stormy Business sired horses he already has his first winner. Stormy Tara, a beautiful gray two year old filly, swept by the field going 4 wide, to easily capture the win in her two year old debut race. While it's early, a 50% winning percentage and averaging $3,600 per start is kinda nice. The top ranked owners in Minnesota only average 21% winners and near $2,000 per start. Tara's August 28, 2011 win was helped by a solid ride by Canterbury's top jockey, Dean Butler. Many thanks to Dean for bringing home the first Stormy Businesses sired winner. Gazettes Girl Wins Again! Nick Goodwin saw Gazettes Girl dig in to pick up her second win on August 27, 2011. Great to win one with Nick. Racing June 2011, Nice To Meet Me wins Allowance! On Fathers Day, in what some say was the race of the year so far, Nice To Meet Me battled head to head down the stretch to finish in a dead heat! Our Astar Lindquist Stable partnership is ranked 5th in earnings and 2nd in earnings per start of all owners racing at the Canterbury meet, as of this writing. Sasha's Fierce notches another nice allowance win! With a nice ride by 18 year old Dustin Dugas, Sasha's Fierce scored by six lengths to win an open company allowance race. It's fairly unusual to see a Minnesota bred beat open company so convincingly in a two turn race but we were happy to see her take home top honors in the near $24,000 added money allowance. See if you can pick out one of the best chefs in the country who joined us in our win picture. Hint...It's not me....big surprise. Better hint.....he starred in Top Chef season 3! |
